After four folk filled years, Jiva (Jimmy & Val) have stepped down as organisers of the club and as of the 3rd January 2008, Ashington Folk Club has been organised by Pat, Doug, Ben & Tristan. The club is held every two weeks. Most evenings are be singers nights where anyone is welcome to volunteer to sing, play an instrument, read a poem, tell a story or just come along to listen. We have started introducing guests - with the talented Jonny Kearney being our first. We also have the legendary Vin Garbutt coming to us on 18th December! The club is open to most styles of music - traditional and contemporary, English, Northumbrian, Irish, Scottish and American (any country/county/state/planet for that matter), folk, blues, folk-blues, avant-folk (... it exists!), acoustic, electric (within reason). Anything you want to play or recite really - you tell us what "folk music" is! As you can see the new website is still under construction, but to get us started, here's a list of club nights taking us through to June 2008.
All events start at 8.30pm and cost £1.00 unless otherwise stated (just put it in the bag - we trust you!) All events & venues are subject to change. In the meantime have a look at our MySpace or the Ashington Folk Club Archive
